Validate Croatian VAT numbers (PDV identifikacijski broj, OIB) against the EU VIES service. Paste one number or a whole list below: every entry is format-checked for Croatia (HR + 11 digits) before it is sent to VIES.
Croatia builds its VAT number on the OIB (osobni identifikacijski broj), the 11-digit personal identification number that every person and legal entity in Croatia receives. For VAT purposes the number is written with the HR prefix and is referred to as the PDV identification number, PDV being the Croatian abbreviation for VAT.
Because the OIB is also used outside VAT, a correct OIB does not by itself mean the business is VAT-registered. VIES tells you whether the number is currently registered for intra-EU transactions.
The OIB was introduced in 2009 as a single identifier for tax and other public records in Croatia, replacing several older identifiers. It is assigned once and does not change, so the same 11 digits appear on a Croatian company's invoices, tax filings and court register entry. VAT-registered sole traders use their personal OIB in the same way, with HR in front.
The last digit of an OIB is a check digit calculated with the ISO 7064 MOD 11,10 method. A single mistyped digit therefore normally produces an OIB that does not exist, which VIES reports as invalid. The Croatian Tax Administration (Porezna uprava) keeps the VAT register, and Croatia has used the HR prefix in VIES since it joined the EU on 1 July 2013.
Older Croatian documents can still show the company registration number (MBS) or the statistical number (MB). Both are shorter than the OIB and belong to other registers, so they fail the Croatian VAT format.
Paste your Croatian numbers into the validator above, one per line, each starting with HR. Spaces, dots and hyphens are removed automatically, and lower-case letters are converted to upper case.
justaxit first checks each entry against the Croatia format (HR + 11 digits). Numbers with the wrong shape are flagged immediately and are not sent to VIES. Well-formed numbers are then checked through VIES, which asks the Croatia tax administration whether the number is currently valid for intra-EU transactions.
Each result shows valid or invalid, plus the name and address when the member state shares them through VIES. If the national service is temporarily unavailable, the number is marked for retry rather than reported as invalid. Registered users can save lists and export results to CSV, Excel or PDF.
HR followed by the 11-digit OIB, for example HR12345678901.
Yes, the digits are the same. For intra-EU purposes the OIB is written with the HR prefix.
Every person and company has an OIB, but only VAT-registered businesses appear as valid in VIES.
Yes. The eleventh digit is calculated from the first ten (ISO 7064, MOD 11,10), so most single-digit typos produce an OIB that does not exist.
