Validate Swedish VAT numbers (momsregistreringsnummer, organisationsnummer) against the EU VIES service. Paste one number or a whole list below: every entry is format-checked for Sweden (SE + 12 digits) before it is sent to VIES.
The Swedish VAT registration number (momsregistreringsnummer) is SE, followed by the 10-digit organisation number (organisationsnummer), followed by 01. That makes 12 digits after the prefix. It is issued by the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket).
Organisation numbers are usually written with a hyphen, for example 556123-4567. To build the VAT number, remove the hyphen, add SE in front and 01 at the end. Sole traders use their personal identity number in the same way.
Organisation numbers for companies are issued by the Swedish Companies Registration Office (Bolagsverket); limited companies (aktiebolag) have numbers that start with 5, usually 556 or 559. The tenth digit is a Luhn check digit, so a mistyped digit usually produces a number that does not exist.
Sole traders (enskild firma) have no separate organisation number: their VAT number is built from their 10-digit personal identity number in the same way. Personal identity numbers are often written with the century, as 12 digits (for example 19121212-1212). Drop the century digits first, otherwise the number ends up with 14 digits after SE.
Paste your Swedish numbers into the validator above, one per line, each starting with SE. Spaces, dots and hyphens are removed automatically, and lower-case letters are converted to upper case.
justaxit first checks each entry against the Sweden format (SE + 12 digits). Numbers with the wrong shape are flagged immediately and are not sent to VIES. Well-formed numbers are then checked through VIES, which asks the Sweden tax administration whether the number is currently valid for intra-EU transactions.
Each result shows valid or invalid, plus the name and address when the member state shares them through VIES. If the national service is temporarily unavailable, the number is marked for retry rather than reported as invalid. Registered users can save lists and export results to CSV, Excel or PDF.
SE followed by the 10-digit organisation number and 01, for example SE123456789001.
Remove the hyphen, add SE in front and 01 at the end: 556123-4567 becomes SE556123456701.
The 01 at the end is part of the VAT number. Without it the number has only 10 of the required 12 digits.
Yes, if registered for VAT. It is SE followed by the 10-digit personal identity number (without the century digits) and 01, built the same way as for companies.
