Validate Latvian VAT numbers (PVN reģistrācijas numurs) against the EU VIES service. Paste one number or a whole list below: every entry is format-checked for Latvia (LV + 11 digits) before it is sent to VIES.
Latvia calls its VAT number the PVN reģistrācijas numurs (PVN is the Latvian abbreviation for VAT). It is administered by the State Revenue Service.
The 11 digits after the LV prefix are the registration number of the business from the Latvian Register of Enterprises, or the personal code for individuals registered for VAT.
Companies are entered in the Register of Enterprises (Uzņēmumu reģistrs), while VAT registration is handled by the State Revenue Service (Valsts ieņēmumu dienests, VID) and is a separate step. A company can therefore have an 11-digit registration number for years without being a VAT payer. The State Revenue Service also publishes a searchable database of VAT payers for domestic purposes.
When a Latvian customer is a sole trader or self-employed person, the VAT number can be based on their personal code. Personal codes are written as six digits, a hyphen and five more digits; drop the hyphen and put LV in front. The hyphen itself is harmless in the validator, because hyphens are removed before the check.
VIES answers the question that matters for intra-EU invoicing: whether the number is currently valid for intra-EU transactions.
Personal codes issued since July 2017 no longer contain the date of birth and start with 32, but they keep the same 11-digit length, so they fit the Latvian VAT format in the same way as the older date-based codes.
Paste your Latvian numbers into the validator above, one per line, each starting with LV. Spaces, dots and hyphens are removed automatically, and lower-case letters are converted to upper case.
justaxit first checks each entry against the Latvia format (LV + 11 digits). Numbers with the wrong shape are flagged immediately and are not sent to VIES. Well-formed numbers are then checked through VIES, which asks the Latvia tax administration whether the number is currently valid for intra-EU transactions.
Each result shows valid or invalid, plus the name and address when the member state shares them through VIES. If the national service is temporarily unavailable, the number is marked for retry rather than reported as invalid. Registered users can save lists and export results to CSV, Excel or PDF.
LV followed by 11 digits, for example LV12345678901.
For VAT-registered companies the 11 digits are the same; the VAT number adds the LV prefix.
Only businesses registered for VAT appear as valid in VIES.
